Is Silver Senior Dating Legit?

A sensible thing to ask before you put your photo and your story online. Here is who we are, what we check, and what to do when something does not feel right.

Yes. Silver Senior Dating is a genuine dating site for older singles, running on the HubPeople dating platform, with members in seven countries. Like any open dating site it gets the occasional fake profile, which is why ID checks are free, every profile has a block and report button, and real moderators act on what members report.

What is Silver Senior Dating?

It is an online dating site made for people in their fifties, sixties and seventies. Members must be adults, and most are over 55, with the over-65s the biggest single group. You create a profile, say what you are hoping for (a partner, a companion, a friend to share outings with), and the site suggests people who fit your age range, distance and interests each day.

The site runs on the HubPeople dating platform. Joining is free, and so are your profile, browsing, daily matches and a few messages a day. Unlimited messaging and a handful of extras come with VIP membership, and the pricing page sets out every plan. Our about us page covers the rules every member agrees to.

What checks does the site make?

Several, and they work at different stages. The admin team can validate a profile and mark it with a badge. Software estimates age, so under-age sign-ups are caught, and it watches for unusual or suspicious patterns of activity, the kind that scammers and bots leave behind. Human moderators review anything flagged.

Members can also prove who they are. An ID check costs nothing and puts a Verified badge on your profile. If you would rather not upload a document, a short live video check with a moderator does the same job. Every member also carries a reputation score built from how others rate their conversations. The safety page explains each of these in more detail.

Are there fake profiles on Silver Senior Dating?

Sometimes, and anyone who tells you their dating site has none is not being straight with you. Romance scammers go where lonely, kind people are, and older daters are a favourite target. The complaints people raise about sites like ours are familiar: the same face on two accounts, or a profile that vanished the day after it said hello.

Here is the honest division of labour. The site removes accounts that its monitoring or its moderators catch, and moderators review what members report. Your part is to treat a profile without a Verified badge with a little more care, to keep the first conversations on the site, and to report anything odd, including a duplicate. One report takes seconds and protects the next person as well as you.

What if someone says they live nearby but clearly does not?

This is one of the commonest worries, and it deserves a plain answer. Other members only ever see your nearest town or city, never your address, and the same goes for everyone you see. A genuine person will happily chat about their local shops, the weather and where they walk the dog. A scammer usually has a reason to be far away: working on a rig, serving overseas, caring for a relative abroad.

If the story keeps moving, ask to meet for a coffee in your area. If that never quite happens, stop replying and report the profile. And whatever reason you are given, money, gift cards and bank details are never things to hand over to a person you have not met. The site will also warn you if a member tries to move you to WhatsApp, text or email early on, which is a scammer's favourite first step. Our online dating tips for seniors list the other warning signs.

How do I cancel my membership?

From your account settings, at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Weekly, monthly, three-month and six-month plans renew at the end of their period until you cancel, while the twelve-month plan is a single payment that does not renew, so it is worth checking which you chose. If you are unsure whether a renewal is coming up, look in the same settings screen. A free account never renews, because there is nothing to pay.

Why do I see so few people near me?

This one is fair too. Our biggest groups are in the Australian capitals, London and the larger American states, so a member in a small town will see fewer people close by than a member in Melbourne. Widen your distance setting a little and the picture usually changes. Our locations page shows where members are.

Is Silver Senior Dating the same as SilverSingles?

No. The names are similar, which confuses plenty of people, but they are separate sites run by different companies. Our SilverSingles comparison sets the two side by side fairly, and our round-up of the best senior dating sites covers the other names you may be weighing up.

Questions people ask about us

Is Silver Senior Dating a scam?

No. It is a working dating site on the HubPeople platform with real members, free ID checks and human moderators. Like any dating site, it can attract scammers, so report any profile that asks for money.

Is Silver Senior Dating safe?

It has the safety tools you would hope for: private usernames, your nearest town shown instead of your address, blocking, reporting and alerts when someone tries to move you off the site. Meeting safely still needs your own common sense, so read our safety page first.

How can I tell if a profile is real?

Look for the Verified badge, a profile written in the person's own words and several photos. Be wary of anyone who avoids meeting, keeps changing their story or mentions money.

How do I stop my plan renewing?

Cancel from your account settings and the next renewal will not be taken. Our questions page covers billing, and the terms linked at the foot of every page set out the rules in full.
