Our New Zealand group is smaller than our Australian one. In a country of under six million people, that is not surprising, and it means it is worth thinking about distance. Auckland has the most members, so Aucklanders can usually keep their search close. Elsewhere, in Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin, set your distance wider than feels natural at first. A drive of an hour or two for a Sunday lunch is a very Kiwi thing to do.
Where to meet on a first date
New Zealand makes first dates easy, because the best places are free and outdoors. In Auckland, try a walk along Tamaki Drive to Mission Bay, or up through Cornwall Park to the top of One Tree Hill. Wellington has the waterfront and Oriental Bay, and the Botanic Garden at the top of the cable car. In Christchurch, Hagley Park and the Avon River are lovely in any season. Tauranga has the base track round Mount Maunganui, which is flat and an easy loop.
