Two senior sites, compared fairly

Silver Senior Dating vs SeniorMatch

Both are made for people over 50, and both welcome friendship as well as romance. The differences are in who runs them, how you start a conversation, and where their members live.

In brief: SeniorMatch is a long-running site for over-50s, run by SuccessfulMatch, the company that now also runs SilverSingles. It offers a "social only" option and travel and activity sections. On SeniorMatch, free members can reply but cannot start a conversation. On Silver Senior Dating, free members can send a few messages of their own each day.

People in New Zealand and South Africa often search for "senior match" when they want a dating site for their age group, and some find us that way. SeniorMatch is a separate site, and a well-established one. Here is what it offers, what we offer, and how to decide.

Who runs SeniorMatch?

SeniorMatch is operated by SuccessfulMatch, and describes itself as one of a group of affiliated dating sites. The same company now runs SilverSingles, so if you are comparing those two, you are comparing sister sites. It has been around for a long time and says it has more than 25 years in online dating.

Silver Senior Dating is not connected to either. We run on the HubPeople platform, and our about us page explains who we are.

Friendship, travel and company

This is one of SeniorMatch's nicest touches. You can join for dating, or join for social contact only, and there are sections for finding travel mates and activity partners, plus group activities and chat groups. If you mainly want someone to go walking or travelling with, that structure makes your intentions clear from day one.

Here, you say what you are after on your profile, from friendship to a long-term partner, and the daily suggestions take it into account. Members can also post updates and photos, comment on each other's posts, and VIP members can start private group chats with up to 50 people, which works well for a walking group or a book circle.

Can free members message on SeniorMatch?

SeniorMatch's free Standard membership lets you create a profile, browse, view profiles, send winks and reply to messages from Premium members. Its own help pages say Standard members cannot start new conversations.

That is the clearest practical difference. On Silver Senior Dating, free members can write first, up to a daily limit, and they can always read and answer messages from VIP and VIP Plus members. If you want to talk without limits, VIP is the step up, and our pricing page sets out each plan.

Knowing the person is genuine

SeniorMatch tells visitors that people must be verified before they can connect with them, and it uses a selfie check against profile photos, though its terms note this may not be offered in every country. There is also an optional third-party check that earns a Verified badge. Like most sites, it is clear that a photo check cannot confirm someone's history or intentions.

We offer a free, optional ID check with a badge, and a short video check with a moderator that needs no documents. The admin team can also validate a profile, AI watches for scam patterns, and you get a warning if someone tries to move you off the site too fast. Read the safety guide for tips on spotting a fake.

Senior dating in New Zealand, South Africa and beyond

SeniorMatch has pages for the USA, Canada, the UK and Australia, and lets members search by country, so it is used more widely. We found no pages written specifically for New Zealand, South Africa or Ireland.

Silver Senior Dating has members in all seven of our countries. Our New Zealand members are mostly over 60, with Auckland the largest group, and in South Africa there are roughly as many women as men, mostly in Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Read senior dating in New Zealand or South Africa.

On your phone

SeniorMatch has apps for iPhone and Android, listed in the App Store in every one of our countries. We run in the browser on any phone or tablet, and you can save us to your home screen so we open with one tap.

When SeniorMatch might suit you better

SeniorMatch is a good choice if you want a strictly over-50 site, like the idea of joining for friendship only, or want ready-made travel and activity sections. Its downloadable apps will suit some people too. We may suit you better if you want to make the first move from day one, want a free ID badge, or live in Australia, where most of our members are.
