An honest word first. Adelaide is a smaller group than Sydney or Melbourne. If you search only your own suburb, you may see just a handful of people. Widen your distance to take in the whole metropolitan area, the Hills and the coast, and the picture changes a great deal. Everything below is written with that in mind.
The good news about a smaller city is that it is easy to get around and easy to meet. Nobody in Adelaide is more than a short drive from anyone else in town, and a first date rarely means a long trip. People also tend to have deep roots here, which makes for interesting conversations: the school you both went to, the footy club your fathers followed, the shack at Port Elliot the family has had for decades.
Who you will meet in Adelaide
There are a few more women than men in the city itself, and across South Australia the two are roughly equal. The over-65s are the biggest group statewide. Among the Adelaide men, most are 65 or older, so a woman in her late sixties or seventies will find men of her own generation here, which is not always the case on dating sites. The women are more varied, with some in their forties and fifties as well as plenty over 60.

My hobby's include landscape photography, hence I like to travel. Ballroom dancing, I take a beginners class each week and have a lot of fun and laughter. I do really love rock n roll though. I lawn bowl a couple of days a week for exercise and competition. Love a good movie with a good humane story. Also enjoy the occasional amateur play or music concert.

Beach, city or Hills: pick your first meeting
By the sea
Glenelg is the natural choice. Take the tram down from the city, walk out along the jetty and sit by the water. Further up the coast, Henley Square and its jetty are a little quieter, and Semaphore has a lovely old foreshore for an afternoon stroll.
In town
The Adelaide Botanic Garden has wide, level paths and plenty of shade, and the River Torrens Linear Park runs right through the city if you would like to walk and talk. The Central Market is fun on a weekday morning, when it is less crowded, and the galleries along North Terrace are free to wander.
Up in the Hills
For a second or third date, the drive up to Mount Lofty summit gives you the whole city spread out below. Hahndorf's main street is made for a slow amble. Further afield, a day at Victor Harbor with a walk across the causeway to Granite Island is a proper outing. Our guide to first date ideas for seniors has more inspiration.
The twenty-minute city
Locals like to say you can cross Adelaide in twenty minutes, and it is not far off. The roads are kinder than in the eastern capitals and parking is easier to find, even near the Parade at Norwood or around Unley Road. Buses, trains and the tram cover the main corridors, and seniors travel at concession rates. That makes it simple to suggest meeting halfway, say in the city, if one of you lives in Hope Valley or Modbury and the other in Brighton or Noarlunga.
Making a smaller group work for you
A few small habits make a real difference in a city of Adelaide's size:
- Set your search distance wide. Fifty kilometres takes in most of greater Adelaide and the nearer Hills towns; go further if you would happily drive to the Barossa or the Fleurieu.
- Loosen the age range a little. Two or three years either side can bring in someone you would otherwise never see.
- Fill in your profile properly and add a clear photo, so that the members you do see want to reply.
- Check your daily match suggestions, which are drawn from the whole area you have chosen.
- Look at Melbourne too, if you travel there often to see family. A chat across state lines can be a pleasure in its own right.
When you arrange to meet, keep it public, tell someone where you are going, and use the site's tools if anything feels off. Our safety page explains how blocking and reporting work.
Adelaide questions
Are there many senior singles in Adelaide?
Fewer than in Sydney or Melbourne. Widening your search to cover greater Adelaide, the Hills and the coast makes a big difference to how many people you see.
How old are the men in Adelaide?
Most of the Adelaide men on the site are 65 or over, so it suits women in their sixties and seventies well.
Can I meet people from country South Australia?
Yes. Increase your distance and anyone in the regional towns you cover will show up in your searches and daily suggestions.
