Perth and Western Australia

Senior Dating in Perth

Sunny mornings, a sea breeze in the afternoon and the Swan River at the heart of it all. Perth is a fine place to meet someone new later in life, and our Western Australian members are ready to show you around.

Perth people know they live a long way from everywhere else, and most of them like it that way. The flip side is that the dating pool on the national apps can feel thin, especially once you are past 55 and have no interest in someone who lives in Brisbane. Silver Senior Dating lets you keep things local: you see older singles in Perth and across WA first, and you decide how far out to look.

Two different pictures: the city and the state

Perth is one of the few places where the city and the state tell different stories. In the metropolitan area there are more women than men, with the women in their forties, fifties and sixties alike. Look across Western Australia as a whole, though, and the balance tips slightly the other way: there are a few more men than women, most of them in their late fifties and early sixties, many living outside the city.

What that means in practice: if you are a woman in Perth and would like more men to choose from, widening your search towards the South West or the outer growth areas is the simplest thing you can do. If you are a man living in the regions, the city has plenty of women who would be pleased to hear from you.

A first date for every Perth season

Perth's climate shapes everything, including a good first meeting. A rough guide:

First date ideas around Perth through the year
Time of yearWhere to goWhy it works
SummerCottesloe beach at breakfast time, or Hillarys Boat HarbourCool, calm and done before the heat builds
AutumnThe river path from Elizabeth Quay to Matilda BayMild days, flat walking, water views all the way
WinterThe Art Gallery of Western Australia in the Perth Cultural CentreIndoors, quiet, plenty to talk about
SpringKings Park, when the wildflowers are outPerhaps the best view of the city there is

Fremantle suits any time of year: a wander past the old port buildings and down to the Fishing Boat Harbour makes an easy, relaxed afternoon. Save the ferry to Rottnest Island for later, when a whole day together sounds like a treat rather than a commitment. For more, see our first date ideas for seniors.

From the northern suburbs to the Peel

Perth stretches more than a hundred kilometres along the coast, so where someone lives really matters. A quick map of the metropolitan area, north to south:

  • Joondalup and Wanneroo
  • Scarborough and Trigg
  • Midland and the Swan Valley
  • Subiaco and Claremont
  • South Perth and Applecross
  • Fremantle
  • Armadale and the Hills
  • Rockingham
  • Mandurah

Down in the South West, there are members around Harvey, with Bunbury not far away.

Trains along the coast, and the Fremantle Doctor

The rail lines run north to Joondalup and beyond, south to Mandurah and out to Fremantle and Midland, so a lot of Perth is reachable without the car. Seniors travel at a concession rate, and off-peak trains are rarely crowded. Driving is easy by big-city standards, and parking near the beaches is usually manageable outside the height of summer. One local tip: the afternoon sea breeze, the Fremantle Doctor, can turn a warm beach into a windy one quickly, so plan seaside dates for the morning.

Using distance search in a state this size

Your search distance is the single most useful setting on your profile in WA. It controls who you see when you browse and which members the site suggests to you each day. A good starting point in Perth is thirty or forty kilometres, which covers most of the metropolitan area from most suburbs. Living in Mandurah or out near Harvey? Set it to a hundred or more so the city comes into view. You can change it at any time, and the phone version of the site makes it quick to check new matches when you are out and about.

As always, meet somewhere public and get yourself there and back. Our safety guide covers the rest.
